Optimal use of global production capacities for improved security of supply and more flexibility

Perlen Packaging's primary goal is to meet our customers' expectations in terms of quality, flexibility, delivery time and reliability.

In the last 15 months, we have all had to experience how important globally functioning supply chains are for meeting these goals. The rush of demand, especially in the first half of 2020 and particularly in Europe, has presented us with major challenges.

To secure supply and increase flexibility at the Perlen site, a second supply chain for PVC/PVdC films in the mid-barrier segment was set up immediately at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, the existing production capacities of our coating plant in Suzhou/China could be mobilised.

In addition to our headquarters in Perlen, we have a second centre of excellence, Perlen Packaging Suzhou, for the production of PVdC coated films in clean room conditions. The site was awarded the "Provincial Exemplary Intelligent Workshop Award" by Jiangsu Province in January 2020. The plant in China convinced the jury on site of the unique manufacturing process with state-of-the-art technology, which guarantees full traceability of the processes in a cleanroom environment.

As in all production sites of the Perlen Packaging Group, we also work with the same quality system in Suzhou and are certified according to the same ISO 15378 standards. This ensures uniform quality worldwide.

Since mid-2020, the 2nd supply chain for parent reels has been established from the Suzhou plant to Perlen. For the most common PERLALUX® Duplex products, we thus have increased stock levels, which have significantly increased our flexibility, even for short-term orders. The assembly process of the orders, the final quality inspection as well as the dispatch are carried out as usual on site in Perlen.

With the implementation of these important measures, we are well prepared for the challenges that the year 2021 holds in store for us.
